Helena Norberg-Hodge, a pioneer of the new economy movement, is the founder and director of the international non-profit organisation, Local Futures. She is also the convenor of World Localisation Day. She is author of the inspirational classic Ancient Futures and of Local is Our Future. Plus a producer of the award-winning The Economics of Happiness and of Planet Local: A Quiet Revolution. Other publications include ‘Bringing the Food Economy Home’ and ‘From the Ground Up: Rethinking Industrial Agriculture’.

Educated in Sweden, Germany, Austria, England and the United States, Helena specialised in linguistics. She has studied at the University of London and with Noam Chomsky at MIT. Her work, spanning almost half a century, has received the support of a wide range of international figures. These include Jane Goodall, Iain McGilchrist, Gabor Mate, Russell Brand, HH the Dalai Lama, HRH Prince Charles and Indira Gandhi.

Helena is the founder of the International Alliance for Localisation. As well as cofounder of the International Forum on Globalisation and the Global Ecovillage Network. She is a recipient of the Alternative Nobel prize, the Arthur Morgan Award and the Goi Peace Prize for contributing to “the revitalisation of cultural and biological diversity, and the strengthening of local communities and economies worldwide.”
